Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a member of the sterol family. It is not a fat, but can
combine with fat as it circulates in the bloodstream. It is a vital
substance that produces steroids, bile acids, hormones etc.
cholesterol must be provided in constant supply, so if it is not
found in food, it is produced by the body – mainly in the liver.
Cholesterol is delivered to cells as lipoproteins. During this
circulation cholesterol can be deposited on major arterial walls at
points of irritation and roughness. This is the underlying process
leading to coronary heart disease and high blood pressure.
Hemp may help symptoms caused by high cholesterol due
to the high EFA content, and this has been shown to help in
reducing the risk of coronary heart disease.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are broken down to simple sugar, 80% glucose
(the body’s main fuel, the equivalent to petrol for a car) and the
rest as fructose or galactose. Most carbohydrates we eat today
are in the form of sugar (simple) or starches (complex). The more
mentally and physically active you are, the more sugar is required.
If you use a lot of mental power then add more sugar, for muscle
power add sugar and fat.
Sugar is the fuel of our human vehicle. Be aware, and
consume sugar in its natural state from sweet fruits, and not from
its processed sugars (fructose, sucrose, glucose, raw-cane sugar,
syrups etc.) or simple carbohydrates.
