Chocolate
When we talk about chocolate we do not mean a Kit-Kat or Mars
bar; they are mainly fats, sugar and milk protein combined with
other flavorings and addictives. The nearest we can get to a sweet
cocoa bean is the 60-70%+ cocoa content, low-sugar chocolate.
Kaoka and many organic Danish chocolates are examples of
quality chocolate brands available today. They are powerful drugs
that are best not eaten habitually.
Craving for chocolate does exist though. Chocolate is an
exceptionally rich source of magnesium which has a relaxing
effect on in the body. Women may crave chocolate before their
periods as the magnesium helps assist in smooth, muscular
contractions. Dried figs are a great source of magnesium and also
iron which is also required at these times. Chocolate contains
caffeine, a strong stimulant that we must be aware of. We can
choose other magnesium rich foods if this is what our body
requires without the caffeine content. Chocolate cravings may also
indicate a need for more bitter or sweet tasting foods in our diet, or
it may indicate a calcium craving for the dairy solids. Stabilise your
blood sugar level with plenty of fruit to reduce such stimulant and
carbohydrate cravings. Increase your calcium levels with plenty of
raw broccoli.
