Grains,
Cereals
and
Flours
These are all starches. Homemade bread is recommended in
order to avoid chemicals and additives. Use freshly ground
organic wholegrain flour if possible. This is perhaps the most
damaging food group in the long-term. Try and slowly reduce your
intake of such foods whilst increasing the amount of green leafy
vegetables.
Tomatoes
Raw tomato is a nearly neutral alkaline food and combines with all
meals. When cooked they turn acid and are best not mixed with
starch or protein meals. This includes puree and tinned tomatoes.
In pasta, use only raw tomatoes as Italian chefs do. Tomatoes are
part of the nightshade family and so can upset some constituents,
so eat in moderation and only if you know they are suitable for
your dosha.
Vinegar
and
Pickled
Foods
As an alternative to vinegar use lemon juice or tamarind paste as
preferable alternatives. Do not mix lemon or vinegar with starch
foods. Pickles being very acid should be used infrequently and in
very small quantities.
