Exceptions
to
the
Rule
Rhubarb, plums, prunes and gooseberries contain acid less
readily eliminated by the body and should be eaten in moderation
in order to care for the body’s alkaline balance.
If your diet consists of 90%+ raw, living foods, then you
are the exception and most food combinations will work for you
due to your strengthened digestive system.
Henry Ford, as well as being a pioneer in the use of hemp
and plant based materials, was also a proponent of food
combining. In an article from Early American Life, David L. Lewis
discusses the ‘Wayside Inn,’ a vocational school set up by the
Ford in 1928 to ‘teach boys how to work with their hands and how
to think.’ Teachings included electrical skills, plumbing, carpentry,
automobile engineering, as well as more traditional subjects.
Along with a Ford-financed education, the students had to adhere
to Ford’s theory on diet. Sugar, candy, sweets, cakes, pies,
puddings and other kinds of sweet desserts were forbidden, as
well as team, cocoa and added salt. Starches and proteins were
never mixed while vegetable salads were served twice a day. Ford
wanted his students brimming with energy so they would happily
learn what they were being taught; showing an understanding of
the laws of a cleansing, high energy diet.
