it. Cover with a dark plastic bag and check once a day. Do not
water until sprouts are 2 inches, then only sparingly. You can now
do away with the plastic covering but keep in shade until the
sprouts are 3-4 inches high.

A few hours per day of direct sunlight is sufficient. The
grass does not need any direct sunlight. Grow at around 60°F
(10°C) if possible, above 70°F is damaging.

The peak of nutrition comes at a very exact point in all
grasses. This occurs just before the young internodal tissue in the
leaf starts to elongate and form a stem. Harvest at this time before
the nutritional values start to drop quickly. This is approximately
after 10 days or 4-8 inches of wheat grass growth. For barley
grass and sunflower, 13 days provide the maximum nutrient value.
The grass is good for one week after maturity. During this time you
can harvest and rinse your grass when you require. After one
week harvest all remaining grass and place in a plastic bag in the
fridge where its nutritional qualities are good for another 3-4 days.

Instead of juicing grass you can just use it as chewing gum
throughout the day. Just harvest a small amount and chew. Keep
a supply of toothpicks and build up your jaw muscles or just buy a
juicer. Remember wheat grass must be juiced in a separate press
from your regular vegetable juicer although you can use your
wheat grass juicer for celery and green vegetables as well. If you
wonder what to do with the leftover pulp/ paste, go to the water
cures section.
