Pranayama


Air is as vital to life as water and food. The essence of the air we
breathe is defined by the amount of negative ions. Polluted, city air
contains positive ions that destroy these negative ions. Breathing
such air is the equivalent to eating junk food.


Clean country air = 3 negative ions to 1 positive

Polluted city air = 1 negative into 500 positive

Breathing


As well as eating and sleeping there is something else the body
needs to perform and that is breathing. Something we all take for
granted.


Many cultures believe the breath is an art form. Some
believe that we have only so many breaths with each body. The
Indian yogis control their breath using an ancient technique called
pranayama. They have been known to hold their breaths for over
an hour. Every time we breathe in we absorb quantities of oxygen
that we need to survive. When we breathe out we discard the toxic
by-product of breathing carbon dioxide. Breathing also helps to
keep the lymphatics moving, keeping the body's sewer system
functional.


Most of us breathe from the top part of our body, but full
breathing also requires the use of the diaphragm and the middle
section of our body. Just watch a baby sleep and see how we
have forgotten to breathe correctly.
