Fats come in various forms. Cooked fats are thick and
promote clogging of the blood and lymphatic systems. Uncooked
fats, from seeds, nuts and avocados, do not cause the same
thickening of the blood and can actually promote loss of weight by
causing a thermogenic reaction.
The average western diet probably does contain more fat
than necessary via packaged foods and the over-consumption of
saturated fats. This can strain the pancreas. It is also likely that
the western diet contains far too few Essential Fats.
Over 75% of the fatty acids in hemp oil are
polyunsaturated fatty acids. Furthermore, a high proportion of
these polyunsaturated fatty acids are the omega-6 fatty acids LA
and GLA.
Research shows that there are approximately 50
essentials factors that must come from the environment. The body
cannot make these but must have them in order to live, function
and be healthy. These essentials nutrients include 20-21 minerals,
13 vitamins, 8-11 amino acids and 2 Essential Fatty Acids, a
source of energy (usually starch or glucose), water, oxygen and
light. Not essential, but required for optimum health, are sources
of fibre, friendly bacteria for our intestines, hydrochloric acid, bile
and digestive enzyme.
The main healing facts are the Essential Fatty Acids: cis-
omega 6,9-octadecadienoic acid or Linoleic Acid (LA) and cis-
omega3, 6, 9-octadecadienoic acid or Alpha-Linolenic Acid (LNA).
LA and its derivative belong to the omega 6 family of
polyunsaturated fats. In addition to LA, this family includes
Gamma-Linoleic acid (GLA), Dihomogamma-Linolenic Acid
(DGLA), and Arachidonic Acid (AA).
Hemp seed (Finola) contains around 4% GLA – an
omega-6 fatty acid. GLA has a variety of uses. It may prevent
handovers, poisoning and depression from alcohol and may also
