lightwas thrown on the debated meaningandoriginof the word abrech.
Again,in the next number(December,1888),for the first time,I believe, is
a distinct explanationgivenof twointerestingvignettesfromthe Book of
the Dead, the explanation being found in the magnificent papyrus
recentlyacquiredby the British Museum,a completefac simile of which
will shortly be issued witha commentaryby our President. Erratato the
Inscriptionof Kum-el-Ahmar, whichappearedin Vol. X, pp. 73, 132,
followedin the January number,and his valuable paperon Egyptian
Phonology'(PartI) in February (1889),to be completed at a future time;
to close the list, I must mention a most interesting communication,
entitledParallelsin Folk Lore,whichappearedin April.
Theletteron Pronominal Formsin Egyptian (November,1888),not
includedin the above list, gave rise to a discussion betweenthe President
and Professor Sayce(JanuaryandMay,1889).
ProfessorPiehlof Upsala has,as on former occasions,contributed
severalvaluable notes,somein continuation of those printedin the
volumefor the previoussession. Among these maybe mentioned :

ProfessorMasperohasfavouredus with twointerestingpapers, La
keineSitra(April,1889), and QuelquesTermesd'ArchitectureEgyp
tienne(June,1889); to the latter of whichI should wishto call the special
attentionof those moreparticularly interestedin the art of building as
practisedby the ancient Egyptians. I am happy to be able to state that
ProfessorMasperohaskindlypromised me to send at no very distant
date a longer paperof considerable interest.
In the Proceedings of May 7 was printed an interesting paperby
Prof.AugustEisenlohr,describingthe Egyptian Antiquitiesat Brussels.
To one of our most regularandvaluedcorrespondentswe have been
indebted,as in former years,for several communicationscallingattention
to texts and antiquitieswhich have either escaped notice, or upon
whichnewlighthasbeen thrown. From Dr. Wiedemann we have
receivedSomeMonumentsof Mont at Thebes (January,1889); Stela; of
LibyanOrigin(April,1889);Textsin the Collectionof Mr. Lee(June,
1889); Texts of the Second Partof the Eighteenth Dynasty(June,1889).
Mr.F. L. Griffith, of the British Museum,whoserecentlypublished
work,presentedto our library, includessomeof the collections of inscrip
tionsmadeby him in Egypt, besidesan illustrated paperwithsuggested
