All these objectionsfall to the ground in consequence of the
new but unassailable fact, that the 390 years in Ezekiel's vision
beginwith Shishak'ssiege of Jerusalem in 928, and pointto the
yearof Cyrus' edictin 538. Theauthor of the fortieth chapter
in the Book of Isaiah* announcesto Jerusalem, at the end of the
390 years, when Cyrus the Anointed of God gave Israel leave
to return, that the time of her bondage has an end, that her
iniquityis pardoned. The nowindisputableyear B.C. 928 for the
5th of Rehoboam andthe 20thof Shishak confirmsthe correct
nessof the year 2360 for the Flood,f as also the period of 592
years, Samuel's judgeship of thirty-two years, the accession of
Rehoboam to the throne two years after Solomon's death, the
year b.c. 1065 for the accession of Pharaoh Her-Hor, and the
possibleyear 4620 for the accession of Menes.

Theyearsof the life of Moses and of Joshua's leadershipcan
now be approximately fixed. The accession of Ahmes to the
throne,of the new kingin Egypt whoknew nothingof Joseph, took
placein B.C. 1598 ; this is therefore the earliest possibleyearwhen
Mosescan have beenborn. It follows that in the year of the
Exodus,1563,his age cannot havebeenmorethan 35 years, nor at
his death morethan75. Moseshas therefore livedbeyondthe 70
yearsmentioned in his Psalm, but,he has not reached the excep
tionallyhigh age of "fourscore years." Fiveyearsafterhis death
Joshuadividedthe land, andin this year 1518 beganthe dominion
of Chusan-Risathaim, whichcame to an end by Othniel's victory.
If not in the year of the division of the land, Joshuacertainlydied
beforethe liberation by Othniel in 15 10.
In the following chronological table the dates not otherwise
explained have been calculatedafter Biblical statements, starting
fromthe year b.c. 2360 for the Flood.

* He calls himselfthe Anointed of the Lord (Is. lxi, i), a title givenonly
to a high priest, for which reasonI submit thatthe author of the last twenty-
sevenchantersin the Book of Isaiah is the high priestJoshua.
t It is remarkable thatCensorinus, about the year A.D.238,in his work
De die natali liber(21,1-3),states,on the authority of Varro, thatwhatthe
lattercalled'thehistoricalage'lasted'about 1600 years,'thatis, 'from the
earlierflood, alsocalledthatof Ogygius, to the first Olympiad.' Accordingly
the flood of Hebrew-Greek traditionoccurredaboutthe year B.C.2376,within
sixteenyearsof the Hebrew dateheresubmitted.
