Prof. Sayce renders Gubarra, " Fire-flame," and observesthat
the Sumerian Gubarra is an older formof the Akkadian Mubarra,
andthatthe form gis-bar(' fire ') shows that the original namewas
Gusbarra; gus, "the sky,"gus, "fire,"and gus-qm, "the yellow
metal" (gold) being connected words. Kibir-ra and Gibil are
" dialectalformsof Gubarra." Withgus compare the Uigur kis, kiz,
' fiery,' ' warm,' the Tchagatai kizi, 'warm,'the Kazan kizil, 'red,'
the Kirgishkizil, 'beautiful,'the Aderbijan kizil, 'gold,''red,'the
Osmanlikiz-mak,the Koibal-Karagass kezcl,'red,'etc. "TheStar
Fire-flame" will be Regulus (« Leonis). Kur=" mountain (the
