Thelamma, primitive form lamas, Assyrian latnaHu, was the
symbolical,human-headed,wingedbull,the guardian of a temple-
entrance. As to the goddess Bahu,identicalor identified withthe
»»f-•£-*■»^lf,'ilu Gu-la, " the goddess Gula,"whois mentioned in


the second partof the line, vide Proceedings, May, 1888, p. 351.
ThenextStarin order is Denebola ("Tail-of-Lion"),whichforms
the 1 2th Arabian moon-station. ThesolarLion,it will be observed,
is not represented in this scheme.

Nergal and the Double-one-of-evening.
We now cometo the zodiacal Virgo,*the two leadingstars in
which,/3 and n Virginis, forming partof the 13th Arabianmoon-
station, anddescribed by Ptolemy as "the oneat the top of the
southernand left wing," and" the foremost of the four in the left
wing,"will answer to the Lady-of-heaven and Urragal(= Nergal).
" A punning etymologyconnectedhis name with ' the great city '
(tiru-gal),as if it had beenNe(r)-uru-gal, 'the Nerof Hades.' "f
Ubitum or Ahbitum is " evidently the same as Istar," % in her
planetary phase as " Star of the morn andeve." The twostars
NinsarandUrragalare elsewhere namedtogether.

Kakkab Dannu 'ilu Da - mu
The-Starof-theHero(i.e.),the god Sky-furrow.
This Star seems to be Zavijava (' Angle,' 7 Virginis), which
formspart of the 13th Arabianmoon-station. "Myhero the god
Damu,"is alluded to in W.A.I. IV, 30; da has the meaning of
'furrow,'and mu of 'sky,' Assyrian,satnu.
