by a passage of the Inscription of Kuban, where, line 8, nearly

the same expressionoccurs. " The king,"it is said, " was seated on

his throne," S %lj ^ft*°\^Q^IIL "adorned withthe

ses/iet and the two feathers." In this phrase the word seshet is

followed by the picture of a circular band with the asp in front

anda knot withpendants behind,representing evidently a royal

head-ornament in metal or some kind of texture. (Compare

Wilkinson, Ancient Egyptians, vol. ii,, p. 328, fig. 11.) Also,

M. Brugsch has rendered it in this sense in his Lexicon (loco

citato).

I propose, therefore, to translate the sentencein question as

follows: " His Majestywasadornedwiththe diadem of lapis-lazuli

(or the blue diadem)."

It will be noticed thatit is only in the passage whichfollows,

thatthe king's comingforthfrom the palace is indicated by the

expression: ^j^^"
