P

escador is considered one of
the best dive areas in the
Philippines with a number of sites
around the island. Easily seen from
Moalboal’s Panagsama Beach, dive
boats head here on a daily basis to
bring divers to take in the walls,
gardens and
reefs. Local dive
operators have
effectively placed
mooring buoys at
several locations
around the island
to protect the
reef from anchor
damage. It’s
possible to swim
around the entire
island in one
dive, but
Pescador deserves several dives to
be fully appreciated.
Currents are usually strong, but
the visibility is frequently great as a
result. Snorkelers can swim over the
shallower sections of the reef to the
wall. There is plenty to see, but
watch out for banca traffic.
Pescador Island Cathedral has a
wide coral variety, frogfish, lionfish
squadrons, barracuda shoals, tuna

and snappers, and much more.
There is a magnificent cave that has
a heavenly view of the surface
which is why it's called the
Cathedral. At midday, shafts of light
dapple the corals and illuminate the
interior in an ethereal light show.
There is also another smaller cave,
known as Lionfish Cave, and some
large boulders.
At Pescador Island Eastthe dive
starts at a plateau that turns into a

slope covered with hard and soft
corals. Scorpionfish, razorfish,
sweetlips, potato cod, snappers,
schools of tuna and barracuda all
come in here. The dive ends on a
plateau with a lot of small marine
life as well. This spot is great for a
night dive and night diving at
Pescador, with all of its soft corals,
is a colorful experience that
compares to few other night dives.
