addiction and treatment.
Kreek competed in the 1954
STS and 1952–1953 ISEF.

MONIKA SCHLEIER-SMITH
MacArthur Fellow and professor
of physics at Stanford University
conducting groundbreaking
research on many-particle quan-
tum systems. Schleier-Smith
competed in the 2001 STS.

SUSAN SOLOMON
Leading atmospheric chemist
whose research helped identify
the causes of the Antarctic
ozone "hole." Solomon
competed in the 1972 ISEF.

LISA SU

March is Women’s History Month, a time that not only celebrates
landmark contributions made by women but also encourages
the potential of bright young women to significantly impact
our future.
The Society for Science, publisher of Science News, is incredibly
proud of the vital and lasting scientific achievements the alumnae
of our student research competitions have made over the Society's
100-year history.

Join us in celebrating these extraordinary leaders and learn more about all of the notable
alumni who competed in the Science Talent Search (STS) and International Science and
Engineering Fair (ISEF) at http://www.societyforscience.org/alumni/notable.
