38 http://www.donnahay.comdate and dark chocolate hand pies1½ cups (210g) pitted dried dates, chopped¼ cup (60ml) boiling water1 tablespoon maple syrup2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed60g dark chocolate, broken into pieces1 egg, lightly beatenicing (confectioner’s) sugar, to dust``````Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the dates, water andmaple syrup in a small bowl and set aside for 5 minutes. Cutthe pastry into 8 x 10cm squares and place on 2 large bakingtrays lined with non-stick baking paper. Divide the datemixture between the squares and top with a piece of thechocolate. Fold the squares over, pressing the edges to forma triangle. Brush with the egg and cook for 12–14 minutes oruntil golden. Dust with icing sugar to serve. Makes 8.quick fix
