the centre of halo A 1 at redshift 10 (top panel) and at redshift zero (bottom panel). To
avoid crowding of points the thickness of the slice is made smaller in the centre (about
30 h−^1 kpc) and larger (1h−^1 Mpc) in the outer parts of the forming halo. Particles of
