  • SEA OF GLASS a figurative expression used in Revelation 4:6 and 15:2.
    According to the interpretation of some, “this calm, glass-like sea, which is
    never in storm, but only interfused with flame, represents the counsels of
    God, those purposes of righteousness and love which are often fathomless
    but never obscure, always the same, though sometimes glowing with holy
    anger.” (Comp. Psalm 36:6; 77:19; Romans 11:33-36.)

  • SEA OF JAZER (Jeremiah 48:32), a lake, now represented by some
    ponds in the high valley in which the Ammonite city of Jazer lies, the
    ruins of which are called Sar.

  • SEASONS (Genesis 8:22). See AGRICULTURE; MONTH.

  • SEA, THE (Hebrews yam), signifies (1) “the gathering together of the
    waters,” the ocean (Genesis 1:10); (2) a river, as the Nile (Isaiah 19:5), the
    Euphrates (Isaiah 21:1; Jeremiah 51:36); (3) the Red Sea (Exodus 14:16,
    27; 15:4, etc.); (4) the Mediterranean (Exodus 23:31; Numbers 34:6, 7;
    Joshua 15:47; Psalm 80:11, etc.); (5) the “sea of Galilee,” an inland
    fresh-water lake, and (6) the Dead Sea or “salt sea” (Genesis 14:3;
