" SeTson of Nut." Thelattershowsthatthe " Set of Ramessu II "
was identified with the ancient
Egyptian deity Set.
Tanis is only 12 miles from
Nebesheh, and both of the monu
ments are of one age : there can
//"\ \ ^\ thereforebe no doubt thatthe figure
at the former place representedSet.
Thesacerdotaltitlesof the vizier who
adoreshimon the stela of 400 years
are " high priest of the Mendesian
god,chiefpriestof Set and lectorof
Uazyt Upt-taui," while at Nebesheh
the erased Set faces Uazyt, who is
likewise namedUpt-taui on another
monumentfromthe ancient Amt.
There are two other figures of
allied types which deserve being
prominentlybroughtbeforethe notice
of Egyptologists.
(1.) In the year 1889 the Rev. W.
Macgregor,of Tamworth, obtainedat
Zagazig a small plaque of glazed
steatite, whichhe kindly allowedme
to copy. Thetop was rounded,and on one sideis the name of
RamesesII ; the other sideis imperfect.
Eachface is engraved witha scene enclosed withina narrow
border. On one faceis a ram-headed sphinx reclining upona
sculptured base,andwearing a head-dress consistingof the horns,

disk, andfeathersJ/y_withtwo uraei. Theinscription,blundered
and indistinct,givesthe nameof this ram as (I v«~v I J
