A Neb-Amenti withthe same titlehas been quotedin the list of
Maspero, Ree.de trav. rel.,etc.,II, p. 180; cf. Lieblein, Diet,des
noms,No 684 ; he was perhaps the son of the setem Kasa(I.e. p. 198,
178),andmightbe identical withthe man namedon our stela. An
interest is given to the monument on account of the divinities
representedat the top, of which two have addedto their namethat of
Hermonthis. Together withthe third onetheygiveus a triad of
thistown,but not the usual one, whichconsists of Mont, Rattaui,
and Harpocrates. Brugsch (Rel. der alt. Aeg., p. 165) remarks
that sometimesTanen-tor Ani-t appearinstead of Rattaui. Our
stelanaming Tanen-tsideby side withRattauiprovesthatthe two
divinitieswerenot looked uponby the Egyptians as forms of the
samegoddess,but as independent personages. Therdle of Rattaui
in the pantheon appearsto have been a very insignificantone,at
leastshe as well as Tanen-t are but seldom quotedin the inscriptions.
Divinitieswiththe symbol wornon the stela by Tanen-t appear
sometimesrepresented in the Egyptian temples; four in number,
theydweltin the mesxen-t of the temple, the part whichwas looked
uponas the room wherethe divine childwasborn,and had there
forethe name Mesxenut,the inhabitants of the Mesxen. Herethey
hadto assist as motherly goddessesin different waysto the just born

sun-child. Eachof them had a special epithet^"*c , , T <=>,

j^'whichcorrespondwiththe goddesses Tefnut, Nut,Isis, and
Nephthys(Leps.,D., IV, 59<1, 82a; Mariette,Denderah, IV, 74^ ;
cf. 29 and Brugsch,Rel. der alt. Aeg., p. 371, 737). Tanen-tis
missingin the list, but her symbol on our stelashowsthatin some
localcultshe occupied a post in the ranks withthesedivinities,and
took,as the epithet nefer-t indicates,the place of Isis. Shewears
the samehead-dressalso,Leps.,D. Ill, 34a, 124^,whereis quoted
alsoMentu,or Sebak and Uat'it; as a woman, she appears, Leps.,
