At the end of line 2, I have adopted Prof. Sayce'srestoration,
" and he looked up,"ippa[lis]. At the end of line 5 he seems to
have restored ip[paf.—" and the gods of heaven and earth as
manyas exist, and whoever(elsetherewas),answeredaccordingly
his command." In line 6, the character thatfollowssu is uncertain ;
the traces have somewhatof the form of »IJ^ which, so far as the
meaningis concerned, would be a possible restoration. In line 9,
if we could restore\lubuf-labeforei$kun,we might see a reterence
to the weeds of woe in which Adapa,followingthe advice of his
father, presentedhimselfbefore Anu; but the traces of the first
characterare more thoseof ma. ThewordSubara(l. 10) appears

cf. I. 13, "victoriously the wings of the South windhe broke" (isbiru).
But the thread of the story has been brokenwith the tablet that

exactsensehere. If the form subarube also connectedwithsabdru,
