signs in each nowremain, and even theyare, for the most part,
quite unclear. The inscription began with a "proscynema" to
"[Osiris,]lord of Busiris and Horus, lordof Boon." The work is
veryrough, and recallsthat of certain semi-hieraticstelae of the
Middle Kingdom, though the form of the winged disk belongs
ratherto later periods.*
III. 36 x iq£ in. This steleis of fine stone and good work
manship. At the top, upon the right, is the ut'a ; on the left is one


wingof the disk <=^» , with dependenturaei,betweenwhichis the

name of Thothmosis IV, i"1""! W 1 ; the disk itself, immediately


above,servingas the sign Q. The one-wingeddiskand ufa eye
seemcharacteristicof the stelae of this reign. t The central register
is occupied by a well wrought picture,in relief, of a goddess, seated
uponthe throne HP , and holding the emblem y , and the lotus-
headedsceptre. Herhairfallsin long straight locks,is adorned
witha wreath of white blossoms(?) and surmounted by the horned
disk. Behindher head is a large scorpion. Beforeher stands the
tableof offerings,whilebeyondit is a space formerlyfilled,it seems,
by a standing malefigure,sinceerased. Betweenthese two figures
and above the table is the following text :—

The word(1iaappearsto have been replaced,afteran earlier
erasure. Thebackgroundof this scene is painted red, the coiffure
of the goddess black. The lowerportion of the stele bearsfour
