In line 4, both (I and (1 ,wwv< have beenerased, but the
latterwas subsequently renewed. I am not clear as to the meaning
of mh-abn KaS r dadas. A possible translationis " Delighting [the
King]as regards Ethiopia beyondwhatshe produces," i.e., more
eventhanthe products of Ethiopiadelighthim. Or it may be, " The
delightof Ethiopia beyond her products," whichwould implythat
the prince was more esteemed in Ethiopia thanthe native riches
which the country produced.* The royal prince,in whose name
the stele is inscribed, is presumably the Amenophis of Lepsius,
Denkmiiler, III, 69 a,t whom one would naturally take to be the
futureAmenophisIII.
