Dec.5] PROCEEDINGS. [1893.

" I therefore conjureyou not to err and not to worship any other
Godthanthat one chosen by your fathers.
" For ye shall know, thereis no other God like unto Him,and no
otherwho can do like His works in heaven and on earth, and there
is none to do such wondrousand mighty deedslike unto Him.
" A portion onlyof His power you can see in the creation of man,
how many remarkablewondersare there not in him. He created
him perfect fromheadto foot ; to listen withthe ears, to see with
the eyes, to understand withhis brains, to smell withhis nose, to
bringforththe voice withhis windpipe, to eat and drink withhis
gullet,to speak withhis tongue, to pronounce withhis mouth, to do
workwithhis hands, to think withhis heart, to laughwith his spleen,
to be angry withhis liver, to digest w ith his belly (stomach),to walk
withhis feet, to breathe withhis lungs, to be counselled by his
kidneys, and none of his members changesits function, but every
one remains at its own.
" It is therefore properfor man to bear in mind all these things,
Whohathcreatedhim and Who it is that hath wrought him out of a
dropin the womb of the woman, and who it is that bringeth him out
into the light of the world, and who hathgivenhim the sight of
-eyesandthe walking of the feet, andwho standethhim upright
and hath givenhim intelligence for doing good deeds, and hath
breathedintohim a living souland the Spirit of purity. Blessed
is the man who does not defile the divine spiritwhichhathbeenput
and breathed into him, and blessed is he who returnsit as pure as
it was on the day when it was entrusted to (him by his) Creator."
These, the words of Naphtali, the son of Israel, whichhe (com
mended)to his sons ; they are sweeter thanhoneyto the palate.
