Notes.
Thischapteris often foundnot only in papyri but upon coffins,
in accordance withthe rubric at the end. Theearliestcopyis on
the coffin of Queen Mentuhotep. A very finecopyis on the ala
bastersarcophagusof Seti I, and our museums are rich in funereal
monumentsinscribedwiththis ancient text. A very similartext is
foundat the end of chapter 99.



  1. Ammehit is the name givenin chapter 149 to the sixth abode
    in Amenta, but here and in other placesit is simply one of the
    namesof the Netherworld. In the inscriptions, for instance, of the
    tombof Queen Tita,*"passingthroughthe two folding doorsof the


Ammehit" is in parallelism with"going in and outof the divine
Netherworld."
