James, and John in the endowment: “observe conditions generally; see if Satan is
there”...“without disclosing [your] identity”^31 ) and a “secret double agent.” By preserving
free will and giving the people what they wanted in juxtaposition to real truth, Joseph took
his fight against the tyranny of mortal ignorance and the “evil” nature of humankind to a
new level. In irony, he did this by suffering a new religion to arise—having all the potential
for understanding real truth hidden in its roots—to eventually become one of the most
abominable of all religions.
