Without Disclosing My True Identity
us by the Only Begotten of the Father, who was known among us as the Son
of man, even Jesus Christ, who came to earth to give us this water. And being
immersed in this water, we rise up, born again to enjoy the words of eternal
life in this world, and eternal life in the world to come, even immortal glory
as it has been written.
Brethren, we cannot enjoy eternal life here in this darkened and fallen world.
But we can enjoy the “words of eternal life.” They are the words given unto
us by the voice of God through his son and our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. He
will teach us the way of life, or how we should live in this world, showing us
by his example and words how his Father lives in immortal glory.^38
Now brethren, we have been given the words of Christ in the Book of
Mormon.^39 His words have become a new and everlasting covenant^40 to us. Be
careful that your desires for establishing Zion and a church do not replace
this new covenant.^41 Moroni was not sent to instruct me to commence a
gathering. He was sent to reveal the Book of Mormon, which contains the
fullness of the new covenant, the Lord’s everlasting gospel.^42
Brethren, wherever a righteous man exists, therein is the kingdom of God in
the flesh. This righteousness comes from the Comforter, or what the man
remembers of that which abides inside his heart. And when more than one
man remembers those things that abide in the heart, then they become Zion.
Let me read this part once again to you, “And the Lord called his people
Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in
righteousness; and there was no poor among them.”^43
We must give heed to this new covenant and give diligent heed to the words of
eternal life that we may enjoy them while in the world. We must live by every
word that Christ gave to the people.^44 His words are the only truth and the
only light that will guide us in this darkened world. Every man has this light
given to him when he is born into this world. It’s a light that abides in him
eternally and cannot be extinguished. And if we hearken to the voice of this
light, even the Spirit of Christ that dwells in every man, we will know what the
Father does. We can become one with the Father by listening to this voice.^45
The whole world is under the bondage of sin. The whole world groans under
darkness, because men do not see the light. They do not hearken to the still
small voice that abides in them. They do not listen to the words of Christ; and
therefore, his Spirit cannot dwell with them. They do not recognize the voice
of the Comforter when it speaks to them. For this purpose was the Book of
Mormon revealed to them, that they might know the words of Christ and
receive his light.
Brethren, all of your minds were at one time darkened, and much of the time
they are still darkened because you have treated lightly the things you have
received. Your vanity has caused many of you to desire more priesthood
