Joseph Smith Biography

Without Disclosing My True Identity

A Stumbling Block of the “Dead”

A reconstruction of the King Follett discourse was made by consultation of the
scribes, who were Willard Richards, Wilford Woodruff, Thomas Bullock, and William
Clayton. All of these men supported Brigham Young, had many wives, and did not publish
any of the discourse notes until August 1844 in the Times and Seasons, a month after Joseph
had been killed. Had Joseph been alive, he would never have allowed these men to publish
the text of the edited and misquoted sermon. The published text was practically a complete
contradiction to what Joseph had actually said.
The corrupt minds of Joseph’s scribes invented an LDS doctrine and sealing
ordinance that has become the greatest stumbling block of all. When Christ does come to
teach the people of the world the real truth, he will pay no attention—none whatsoever—
to what the LDS people have done in their temples and “for” their dead. They should have
listened to the advice that Jesus gave one of his followers: “Let the dead bury their dead.
Come follow me.”^78 The LDS people have become some of the “deadest” people upon
earth. Their concern for the dead and neglect of the living has become the greatest
judgment against them.
The above corrupted presentation of Joseph’s words, in addition to what was
reported by his scribes, whose notes contradicted earlier teachings and revelations, was
proof enough of where the hearts of the LDS/Mormon people were. The entire situation
was necessary in order to show how far the LDS Church had strayed even by that early
date, not only away from Joseph’s own teachings which were meant for the people to
stumble anyway, but also from the true Gospel. Even when the Saints were not caused to
stumble, the desires of their own hearts and minds led them away from the “fullness of the
everlasting Gospel delivered by the Savior,” as presented in the Book of Mormon.

This Biography Spares Needless Details

Volumes of real truth could be written concerning the way that Joseph fulfilled his
role as a true messenger without disclosing his true identity. There have been countless
untrue accounts already written of his life and of his death. This biography could give each
and every detail that led up to his murder and those who were involved in it; but would the
details serve justice to the real truth?
Joseph and his brother Hyrum were murdered in cold blood, innocent of all charges
brought against them. Would an explanation of exactly how Sidney Rigdon communicated
with the organizers of the mob—which included John Bennett, William Law, and John
Whitmer, among other Latter-day Saint conspirators—give any more validity to the true
reason the Smith brothers were murdered? Relating these details would only cloud the mind
of the reader with trivia and keep the light of Joseph’s mortal mission and purpose for
authorizing this biographical exposition from being revealed in its true reality.
In the end, this is Joseph’s biography and reflects what the advanced beings and
Joseph who commissioned it, wanted it to say. It was not written to achieve literary praise
for its author. It is an exposition of the real truth from the point of view of a true messenger,
inclusive only of those points necessary to understand how a true messenger, “who [did]
not reveal his true identity,” performed his mortal mission. Its intent is so those who want
to know the truth may understand what, why, where, when, who and how Joseph did what
