13.Use the file or sanding pad to eliminate any
burs or rough edges left from drilling holes
into the pieces of copper wire and the discs.

14.Apply liver of sulfur or oxidizing solution to
the discs and the two pieces of copper wire.
It is very important to follow any safety rec-
ommendations the manufacturer suggests
when using any chemicals.

15.After using the oxidizing solution, use fine
steel wool to remove some of the darkened
area on the surface of the discs and the two
pieces of copper wire, leaving the circles and
the lines where you stamped dark. Rinse with
water, dry, and rub with a polishing cloth.

11.Put on the safety glasses. Place the copper
wire and the discs onto a hard, flat surface.
Place the point of the awl on the marks that
you made^1 ⁄ 16 ” from the end of the wire and
the edge of the discs. Using a hammer, firmly
strike the top of the awl once to make a pilot
hole for drilling the holes into each end of
the copper wire and each of the discs.

12.Using a^1 ⁄ 16 ” drill bit, drill holes into each end
of the pieces of copper wire and each of the
discs using a handheld rotary tool, flex shaft,
or drill press. (Of course, wearing your safety
glasses.)
