11.Put on the safety glasses. Place the copper
wire and the discs onto a hard, flat surface.
Place the point of the awl on the marks that
you made^1 ⁄ 16 ” from the end of the wire and
the edge of the discs. Using a hammer, firmly
strike the top of the awl once to make a pilot
hole for drilling the holes into each end of
the 12-gauge wire and each of the discs.

12.Using a^1 ⁄ 16 ” drill bit, drill holes into each end
of the pieces of copper wire and each of the
discs using a handheld rotary tool, flex shaft,
or drill press. (Of course, wearing your safety
glasses.)

13.Use the file or sanding pad to eliminate any
burs or rough edges left from drilling holes
into the pieces of copper wire and the discs.
Set these aside.

14.Use the ruler to measure and mark the
20-gauge wire into six 6” pieces. Using your
hands, wrap each piece of the 6” wire around
the bamboo skewer to form the coil beads.
Use the chain nose or flat nose pliers to help
finish the last coil. If needed, trim and file
the ends of the wire.
