10.Put your safety glasses on. Place the leaf
shapes onto a hard, flat surface. I use mask-
ing tape on the tip to hold the leaf shapes in
place while I am stamping the veins into
them. Place the tip of the flat screwdriver
onto the leaf shape and strike the top of the
flat screwdriver once. If you strike the top of
the screwdriver multiple times, it is likely to
jump across the surface of the leaf shapes
and leave marks on the surface that you had
not intended. Oops! If that happens, consider
it a learning experience and adjust your
original design.
11.Apply liver of sulfur or an oxidizing solution
to the leaf shapes and oval jump rings. It is
very important to follow any safety recom-
mendations that the manufacturer suggests
when using any chemicals.
12.After oxidizing the various pieces, use fine
steel wool to remove the darkened area
on the raised surface of the leaf shapes,
leaving the “veins” dark. Rub the fine steel
wool over the jump rings to remove some
but not all of the darkened areas. Rinse with
water, dry, and rub with polishing cloth.
Set these aside.
