1.Use the ruler to measure and mark two I”
pieces of 4 × 1 mm rectangle sterling silver
wire.

2.Using a jeweler’s saw or tin snips, cut the
4 ×1 mm rectangle sterling silver wire into
two pieces that are I” long.

3.File each end of the I” rectangle wire
pieces to remove any burs or rough edges.
If desired, you can use the file to round the
ends of the rectangle wire pieces. Use a fine
grit sanding pad to go over the area you filed
to smooth the edges and remove any file
marks.

4.Use the ruler to measure and mark^1 ⁄ 16 ” from
each end of the I” pieces of rectangle wire
and place a mark in the center of the wire.
This is where you will drill the holes to attach
the jump ring and head pin with the bead
and also the ear wire.

5.Put on your safety glasses. Place the I”
rectangle wire pieces onto a hard, flat surface
and put the point of the awl on the mark
that you made^1 ⁄ 16 ” from each end of the
rectangle wire. Use a hammer to firmly strike
once on the top of the awl to make a pilot
hole for drilling holes into each end of the
rectangle wire.
