5.Put on your safety glasses! Place the 1”
rectangle wire pieces onto a hard, flat
surface. Place the point of the awl on the
mark that you made^1 ⁄ 16 ” from each end
of the rectangle wire, and firmly strike once
on the top of the awl with a hammer. This
will make a pilot hole for drilling holes into
the rectangle wire.

2.Using a jeweler’s saw or tin snips, cut the
4 ×1 mm rectangle sterling silver wire into
two 1” lengths.

3.File each end of the 1” rectangle wire pieces
to remove any burs or rough edges. If
desired, you can use the file to round the
ends of the rectangle wire pieces. Use a fine
grit sanding pad to go over the area where
you have filed to smooth the edges and
remove any file marks.

4.Use the ruler to measure and mark^1 ⁄ 16 ” from
each end of the 1” pieces of rectangle wire
and place a mark in the center of the wire.
This will be where you will drill the holes to
slide the head pins through.
Always wear your safety
glasses when doing any job
that might result in metal, stone,
or any hard material flying around.
