Lesson 3. Signs of the Zodiac

The signs of the Zodiac play an important role in the

workings of various rituals and spells. Of course, a

working can be done at any time; it is just that certain

times are more effective than others are. Above are the

types of workings best suited to each Sign, starting

with Spring Equinox

Lesson 4. Planetary Aspects

Each of the seven visible “Planets” (including the Sun

and Moon) has certain associated qualities that con-

tribute to rituals and spellwork. These qualities are

numerous and complex (see 3.VI.5: Table of Correspon-

dences: Planets), but briefly they are as follows:

Sun (Sunday) The Sun brings you honor,

acceptability, and elevation. Your work will

go well, making you a master of whatever

you try. You will achieve success, but it won’t go to

your head. The Sun brings money and the support of

powerful people, as well as aiding you in finding lost

treasures. The days and hours of the Sun are also

good for divination and dissolving bad qualities. The

hours of the Sun, in general, are good for works of

love and kindness, bringing about happiness and

friendship.

Moon (Monday) The Moon can make

you pleasant, friendly, happy, honored, and

cheerful. It aids in removing all malice or evil

thoughts you may have. Security for travelers,

monetary gain, long-lasting health, and elimination of

enemies are among the fortunate aspects of the Moon.

The hours of the Moon are good for preventing theft

and recovering stolen goods, obtaining prophetic

visions, and anything related to water (including travel

by sea or river). Also for winning love and mending

quarrels, invisibility, seeing visions, and raising spirits.

In magick, the Moon is the most important heavenly

body. In relation to this, use the following code when

planning lunar workings:

For invocations of spirits, recovery of stolen

goods, and calling of the dead, the Moon should be

in an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn).

For love, honors, and invisibility, the Moon

should be in a Fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius).

For all manner of destruction, hatred, or anger,

the Moon should be in a Water sign (Cancer, Scorpio,

Pisces).

All other workings that cannot be classified under

the above should be done when the Moon is in an

Air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius).

Mars (Tuesday) Mars is about power—

brute physical power. It aids works of hatred

or discord, destruction, and military ventures.

Often used to destroy, or arouse anger, hatred, or jeal-

ousy in another, Mars is also used in necromancy

when contacting the dead who have died by violence.

The basic idea of Mars is one of total disruption; it

brings barrenness and troubles. But you can use it in

its fortunate aspect to bring enduring power and a will

to fight. Honors and victory in physical competition,

courage, and the ability to defeat your enemies are

also of the beneficial aspect of Mars.

Mercury (Wednesday) Mercury can

help make you grateful, accepting, and un-

derstanding, as well as aiding you to do

what you please. It keeps away poverty,

both material and mental. Mercury can help improve

your memory and your abilities in communication and

divination, encouraging you to seek higher knowl-

edge and great truths. The hours of Mercury are good

for divining the future, seeing spirits, prophetic

dreams, gaining knowledge, and discovering the truth.

Mercury aids anything concerning merchandise and

commerce and brings success in business, contests,

games of skill, sports, etc.

 Aries 3/21-4/19 Curing illness and disease; gaining eloquence of speech; acceptance and honor.

 Taurus 4/20-5/20 Curing fevers; becoming gracious, devout, and religious.

 Gemini 5/21-6/20 Gaining good health, friendship, and happiness; preventing boredom.

 Cancer 6/21-7/21 Ridding of poisons; attaining wisdom.

 Leo 7/22-8/21 Curing colds; gaining an eloquent and ingenious nature.

 Virgo 8/22-9/21 Curing fevers; gaining acceptance and eloquence.

 Libra 9/22-10/21Fighting disease; gaining friendship and happiness.

 Scorpio 10/22-11/21Provoking passion and lust.

Sagittarius11/21-12/21Curing illness; gaining acceptance and honor.

Capricorn 12/22-1/20Keeping people and places safe and secure.

Aquarius 1/21-2/19 Gaining health and happiness.

Pisces 2/20-3/20 Protecting against fevers and evil.
