Biography


Born Cologne, Germany, May 19, 1924. Studied photogra-
phy at the Werkkunstschule, Cologne, 1942–1944.
Taught Photography at The Bikla School of Photogra-
phy and Film in Du ̈seldorf, 1950–1955; Free-lance
photojournalist, after 1952; Stage designer, director
and photographer for theaters in Cologne, Bonn, Ham-
burg, Hannover, Vienna, Braunschweig and Kassel,
1961–1967; Organizes the exhibition10 Years of World
Press Photo, 1966; Kulturpreis der Deutschen Ge-
sellschaft fuer Photographie, 1968; Karl-Ernst-Osthaus
Prize, Hagen, West Germany, 1970. Died in Cologne on
New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1971.
