About the Author
Professor Howell is Emeritus Professor at the University of Vermont. After gaining his
Ph.D. from Tulane University in 1967, he was associated with the University of Vermont
until retiring as chair of the Department of Psychology in 2002. He also spent two separate
years as visiting professor at two universities in the United Kingdom.
Professor Howell is the author of several books and many journal articles and book
chapters. He continues to write in his retirement and was most recently the co-editor, with
Brian Everitt, of The Encyclopedia of Statistics in Behavioral Sciences,published by
Wiley. He has recently authored a number of chapters in various books on research design
and statistics.
Professor Howell now lives in Colorado where he enjoys the winter snow and is an avid
skier and hiker.
