Here’s what your circuit should look like if you use the first section of the chip,
and make you connections to pins 1& 2:


If the circuit doesn’t seem to make any sound, make sure the component values
are correct – too small a capacitor or resistor will cause the circuit to oscillate at a
frequency too high to hear; larger values produce sub-audio frequencies, the
slow tick tock of a metronome. If the circuit oscillates, but erratically, and is
sensitive to placing fingers on chip pins and component leads, then you may
have forgotten to connect the + and – power to the chip, or connected them to the
wrong pins, or left one leg of the capacitor or resistor unconnected (this chip will
