Fury on Earth: A Biography of Wilhelm Reich

(Jacob Rumans) #1

In August 1939, Reich finally received his visa. On August 19, he set sail on the
Stavenger Fjord, the last boat to leave Norway for the States before World War II broke out
on September 3. While Reich was en route to America, the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany
signed a non-aggression pact, thoroughly revealing what Reich had been saying for some
years: the revolution’s promise for the Russians had been betrayed.
Elsa Lindenberg received a letter from him, written in his cabin, saying that he had
cried a good deal on the trip, that he missed her, and wanted her to join him^33.
