- Ordinal Number
A number defining an object’s position in a series such as first or second is the
ordinal number.
The idea may be explained by citing the marks scored by students of the class in a
particular test/examination. The student who scored the highest mark obtained the
first rank followed by second, third, etc. Few beads may be placed in a uniform
pattern and the child be asked to collect them one by one by spelling out the ordinal
number of each like first, second, third, etc.
In this concept, the order of the child in the family could also be used.
- Digit
The numerals 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 are called digits. It is by using these ten
digits that all numbers are generated in the set of whole numbers.
For example, the numeral for one thousand two hundred and thirty four is written as
