All the ideas regarding metric system may be explained to the child through tactile
tables supported by relevant text material in Braille, and once the child is clear with
the ideas he/she may be asked to go to a shop and buy a few things, say for example,
500 grams of rice, 50 milliliters of shampoo and 2 meters of thread, without the
assistance of others.
If the child is having the habit of going to the shop for purchasing some articles,
then he/she must have the knowledge of the metric measures already. The task of
the teacher is in associating the already familiar ideas to the current learning
condition.
