The Astrology Book

(Tina Meador) #1
In charts where signs are intercepted, there are other, narrower houses that begin
and end in the same sign. This results in two successive houses with the same sign on
their cusps (the same sign at the beginning of both houses), which are thus both ruled by
the same planet. Some contemporary astrologers interpret this situation as indicating
that the affairs of these two houses are linked. Thus, for example, in a natal chart in
which the second and third houses are so linked, the native might earn her or his living
(second house) through communication, publishing, or travel (third house).

INTERNATIONALSOCIETY FORASTROLOGICALRESEARCH
The International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR) was incorporated in
Sacramento, California, on December 5, 1979, at 10:30 AM. ISAR is a professional
organization that serves the world astrological community with an elected board of
directors and a network of vice presidents from many countries.
Since 1980, ISAR has produced annual conferences focusing on professional-
ism, research, technology, and international outreach, offering scholarships for confer-
ence attendance. ISAR was a pioneer among international astrology organizations in
initiating professional standards of paying conference speakers, and paying authors for
accepted articles published in its quarterly journals.
ISAR’s support and backing provided the important gestation phase for Lois
Rodden’s AstroDataBank, providing accurate birth data to the astrology community.
It has given financial grants for research that has helped astrologers earn advanced
academic degrees. ISAR keeps a vast library of seminar tapes, including many classic
astrologers presenting their specialties. Its Weekly Online Newsletter, initiated in 2000,
keeps members involved in current events and the latest in research information.
ISAR was the cofounder of the prestigious United Astrology Conference in
1984 and was a cosponsor in 1986, 1989, 1992, 1995, 1998, and 2002. The organiza-
tion has a code of ethics and is developing a voluntary program that astrological orga-
nizations and astrology schools can join in order to share a common standard for the
professional practice of astrology. Graduates of these programs can receive a C.A.P.
(Certified Astrological Professional) certification from ISAR.
The following ISAR publications have helped support the astrology research
community: Tables for Aspect Research1986; Astrological Research Methods(volume I,
1995); ISAR’s Financial and Mundane Book(1996); its quarterly journal, Kosmos
(1978–99); and International Astrologer(1999 to present).
