Aries to Virgo.

NOSTRADAMUS

Nostradamus (Latin name of Michel de Nos-
tredame), the famous doctor and astrologer, was
born on December 14, 1503, in St. Remy,
France. He prophesied the manner of death of
Henry II, was a favorite of Catherine de Médicis,
and served as physician to Charles IX. Nos-
tradamus’s fame derives from the Centuries,a
book of prophecies set to rhyme that was pub-
lished in 1555. This book has often been reprint-
ed, and is still being reprinted today. The fame of
Nostradamus is such that many people have at
least heard of “the prophecies of Nostradamus.”
He died on July 12, 1566, in Salon, France.

NOVILE

A novile (also called a nonagon or a nonagen) is
a minor aspect of 40°, created by subdividing a
circle (360°) into nine equal parts. According to
Emma Belle Donath, noviles refer to the activity
of “brooding,” both physical and mental. Noviles
are given an orb of influence of 1–2°.

letters of the alphabet are assigned numerical values. When the letters of a person’s
name are added together, the resulting number indicates her or his basic character—
the numerological equivalent of an astrological sun sign. The numbers making up
one’s birth date are also added together, providing a second number, which is inter-
preted in a like manner.

Although modern numerology has been mediated to the contemporary world
through the Kabbalahalistic tradition, it is rooted in the number mysticism of Pythago-
