REFRANATION
Refranation is a technical term used in horary
astrology referring to a situation in which a
planet turns retrograde (reverses its apparent
motion) before it completes an aspect to which
it has been applying. In such a situation, the
matter for which the horary chart was cast will
not result in a successful conclusion.

REGIOMONTANUS
(JOHANNMÜLLER)
Regiomontanus (born Johann Müller), a
German astronomer and astrologer, was born on
June 6, 1436, in Königsberg, Germany. He
established an observatory at Nuremberg, where
he observed Halley’s comet. Regiomontanus
also published ephemerides (tables of planetary
positions) that were used by, among other peo-
ple, Christopher Columbus. He was brought to
Rome by Pope Sixtus IV to help devise the cal-
endar. Regiomontanus was also the translator of
Ptolemy’s Almagest.He died in Rome on July 6, 1476. He is best remembered by
astrologers for the system of house division that bears his name.

REGIOMONTANUSSYSTEM
The Regiomontanus (Regiomontanean) system is a system of house division
devised by Johann Müller (Regiomontanus was his pseudonym) in the fifteenth cen-
tury. At one time it was the most popular sysem in Europe.

REINCARNATION, KARMA, ANDASTROLOGY
Reincarnation is the theory that each individual soul progressively incarnates
in a succession of different bodies. Belief in reincarnation usually carries with it cer-
tain other, related notions, such as the idea that one is learning from one lifetime to
another and that, in time, every soul will become perfected and consequently no
