Otro

Otro(variable for gender and number) is used as an adjective with the

meaning ‘(an)other’ and as a pronoun meaning ‘another one’, ‘others’:

La otra máquina nunca funciona. The other machine never

works.

¿No tienes otra cosa? Don’t you have anything else?

¿Dónde están los otros? Where are the others?

Spanish otro and English ‘other’

1 Unlike English ‘other’, Spanish otrois neverused with the

indefinite article: otra mesa ‘another table’.

2 Otrois placed beforecardinal numbers: otros cuatro‘four

others’, otras cien libras ‘another hundred pounds’, but after

other indefinites: alguna otra razón‘some other reason’.
