You can adjust the tone of your color by

varying the amount of pressure you apply.

Using your fingers or a

blending tool, gently rub the

colors into the background.

Use the chisel edge of

the golden-yellow pastel

to create leaves. Using

the flat side of the pale

green pastel, add light

to the reeds. Also use

this technique to create

reflections in the water.

Use the flat side of the mid-

yellow pastel to create a

thin layer of leaves.

Create small areas of deep

red leaves across the whole

tree area. Make them

darker on the left side and

lighter toward the sunlight.

Use the charcoal stick

to draw the tree trunk,

branches, and twigs.

Create shadows in the

water. Use the sharp edge

of the golden-yellow pastel

to indicate movement in the

water. Use the flat side of the pastel to create light reflections on the water and add sunlight to the

trees. Intensify the dark shadows in the water.
