MOUNTAINS

Mountains stand proud on the landscape, but capturing this majesty has long eluded artists. This

painting is inspired by Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. The rock is dark blue-gray, but when

snow covers the peak, it looks stunning!

An accurate drawing is vital when painting mountains. Then block in the sky in shades of blue using

the flat side of the pastel and working from dark to light. Use a very pale blue for the clouds.

Block in most of the mountain with shades of dark blue and brown. Begin to highlight some areas of

snow to indicate that the sun shines from the top left of the picture.
