Painting the sky can be di!cult; it's constantly moving and changing color. Painting in pastel makes

it easier because it’s such a quick medium! However, on a windy day, the speed of the clouds can still

cause problems. One tip is to always keep a camera handy. As soon as you see that special cloud

formation, run outside, and take a picture.

First draw a few very simple cloud formations with a pastel pencil. Position the most interesting cloud

shapes in the central area of the painting.

Using the side of a pastel, block in the background. Starting in the top left corner, the colors move

from dark to light across this painting. Highlight the central cloud formations in pale colors, and then

add other pale colors to the lower clouds.
