Joan Mullin is professor and Chair of english studies at illinois state university and
focuses on intersections of writing in visual disciplines. ‘appropriation, homage
and pastiche’ in her co-edited book, Who Owns This Text, exemplifies her interest
in comparing international and interdisciplinary uses of writing and visual-textual
ownership.


Darren Newbury is professor of photography at Birmingham City university, uK. he
has published widely on photography and research education in art and design. he
has served on the postgraduate committee of the arts and humanities Research
Council. his most recent book is Defiant Images: Photography and Apartheid South
Africa, published by university of south africa press.


Helga Nowotny is professor emeritus of social studies of science at eTh zürich, and
president of the european Research Council. she has extensively analysed recent
developments in the science system, in particular at the interface of disciplines and
in science-society relations (mode 2 research).


Malcolm Quinn is Reader in Critical practice at the university of the arts, london.
his writing deals with relations of aesthetics and politics, focusing on psychoanalytic
models of the social bond. he is the co-author of Knowing Nothing Staying Stupid:
Elements of a Psychoanalytic Epistemology, published by Routledge.


Hans-Peter Schwarz is professor of art and media Theory and founding president of
the university of the arts, in zürich. he was formerly director of the museum for
media-art at the Centre of art and media (zKm) in Karlsruhe, germany and has
published a great number of research studies on art, architecture and media.


Stephen Scrivener is professor of design and director of doctoral programmes at
CCW graduate school, university of the arts, london. he has authored numerous
publications on a range of art and design topics, including the relation between art
and design processes, products and the conditions of research.


Henk Slager is dean of the utrecht graduate school of Visual art and design
(mahKu), professor of artistic Research and general editor of MaHKUzine,
Journal of Artistic Research. he was one of the curators of the 2008 shanghai Biennial
and, among other curatorial and academic practices, has been a tutor at de appel’s
Curatorial program since 1994.


Joost Smiers has been professor of political science of the arts at the utrecht school
of the arts. his Arts under Pressure: Promoting Cultural Diversity in the Age of
Globalisation has been translated into ten languages. he is the co-author of Imagine
there’s no copyright and no cultural conglomerates too.
