Startby connecting all therequired
hardwareto your Pi.This includes
plugging the device into one or two
monitors^1 andconnecting akeyboard

noobs481. Format the Micro SD card
using SDFormatter (bit.ly/sdformat481),

drag the filesto your Micro SD card.

Insert the SD card intoyour Pi and
power it up.The NOOBS Installer
will run and, ifyou’reconnectedto the
internet, giveyou a choice of operating
systems. Select Raspbian^1 and click
Install.^2 ClickYes and the installation
will begin. Click OK when it finishes.
Your Pi willrestart and Raspbian
should load automatically.

Can you use thePi 4
as a desktopcomputer?
A £53 barebones board (for thetop-of-
the-range 4GB model) isn’t goingto
compete with a £500 laptop or desktop
PC – it’s not even goingto come close.
But provided your expectations of what
you can and can’t do with it arerealistic,
you shouldn’t betoo disappointed.
Because the Pi runs a Linux operating
system, rather thanWindows, a lot of
programs thatyou would usually run ona
PC – such as Microsoft Office and many
big-name games – aren’tavailablefor it.
You can run LibreOffice (Raspbiancomes
with it preinstalled), which runswell, and
it also handlesweb br owsing and other
