magazine. Iwas
shocked whenI
checkedmy

my Google account,
and found that it
had recorded allmy
Amazon purchases.
What gives Google

Don’t charge your devices
overnight
I was pleasedto see your article in Issue
479 about how bestto preserve battery
life, which is something I’ve triedto drum
into my family, with limited success.
Especially important isyour point about
not leaving a device sittingat 100%
charge all night. I actually prefer notto
chargeto 100% if I canavoid it.
Instead, I charge whena
device gets downto around
45% andstop at 95 % or so.
However, your
suggestion of charginga
bit in theevening and then
again in the morning seems
impractical. Myown method
is to have my chargers on time
switches. I’ve set it up so thatmy devices
chargefor a couple of hoursat night
before the charger shuts off. Icould then
turn on the charger again in the early
morningto to p up. I don’t find I needto
do this but others might.

To Amazon or not to
Amazon?
I was interested to read your ‘S top
shoppingat Amazon’ article in Issue 478
and your exhortations notto “make
Bezos even richer”.
Unfortunately, you ha ven’t taken
your own advice. In your grouptest of
multifunction printers in Issue479,
every deviceyou test has a linkto buy
it from Amazon!
Apart from leavingyourself opento
accusations of doublestandards, doyou
not thinkreaders of a periodical called
Web Userare capable of searchingfor
the printers that interest them without
being ledto the onlinestore you so
derided in the previous issue?

ILLYOU PAY £5.99 PER
MONTHFOR THE NEW
BRITBOXSTREAMING SERVICE
(see page 21)?

Nope! I already begrudge paying the
licencefee, whichcosts more than
Netflix and Amazoncombined. I’d
rather the BBC had ads and nofee.
Caroline Chapman@cantstopthesgnl

No thanks.You’re basically payingfor
TV you’ve already paidto see.
Si Mellor

I’ve seen some of the programmes
you getfor the subscription.They’d
needto pay me £5.99to watch it.
Hopefully this BritBox service means
the licencefee will be cancelled.
Cunningham Hutchison@MrChutchy

They’d needto offercontent that
hadn’t been shown on TV beforeto
make meeven remotely interested.
Then the programmeswould have to
appealto me – so it’s not likely.
Lynn Sharpe

I’d only pay if the BBC Archive made
available all therecovered “missing”
episodes ofTop of the Popsthey’ve
had in thevaults. Otherwise no!
Roy Ellaby@elan48 72

No thanks. I detest the money-
grabbing BBC. I don’t have a licence
and I don’twatch the BBC or any live
TV, and Irefuse to pay the BBC in any
way! I’ll stick with Netflix, thanks!
Marie Davies

I’m not paying moneyfor repeats. I’d
rather shell outfor Netflix andwatch
original movies and programmes.
Jason ‘Boz’ Bowyer

No, most of the programmes the BBC
and ITV make are a pile of crap.
Stephen Scotford

No. Programmes Iwant to watch more
than once I buy onDVD and Blu-ray.
The issue with allstreaming options is
that you can’t guarantee what will be
available in the future as they move
programmes on and off their servers.

O YOU THINK THE POLICE
SHOULDSTOP USING
FACIAL-RECOGNITION
TECHNOLOGY (see page 40)?

Yes, MPs have got it rightfor onc e.
The technology isn’tready yet.
ChrisCole

How else are they supposedto te st it
if not in thereal world? The
technology will improve eventually
like everything else.CCTV is already
everywhere, so whyworry about this?
Gary Olsen

No. Ifyou ha ven’t done anything
wrong, it’s no problem, and ifyou
have, it servesyou right.
Paul Emsley

It’s like 1984 but35 years late.
IainKenworthy-Neale

They should beforced to delete the
images they gather after 48 hours,
unless a suspect is identified.
