Apart from the CH 3 carbon at 22 d/ppm, the remaining carbon-13 resonances
in 3-hydroxy methylbenzene(Fig. 11) are all in the unsaturated region between
100 and 160 d/ppm. The3-carbonis deshielded more than the remainder, being
bonded directly to oxygen, but the chemical shifts of the remainder reflect the
variations in electron density around the ring.
